Dr. Kawalya Issa

Dr. Kawalya Issa is a distinguished scholar and senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). With over two decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience, he has made significant contributions to political sociology, interreligious dialogue, and peacebuilding studies across East Africa.

He holds a PhD in Political Science (Political Sociology), with a dissertation on Interreligious Dialogue and Conflict Prevention in Uganda. His earlier graduate work explored The Implications of the Civil War in Rwanda and the Future of That Country. Over his academic career, Dr. Kawalya has served in various leadership positions at IUIU, including Deputy Director of the Directorate of Quality Assurance, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Head of the Department of Political Science.

Dr. Kawalya has also served as an external examiner for several regional universities, including Eelo University (Somaliland), East African University (Puntland), and Kampala University (Uganda).

  • Designed and coordinated the Master of Arts in Religion, Peace and Conflict Resolution program.
  • Spearheaded the design and implementation of MA in Peace and Conflict Studies and MA in International Relations and Diplomacy.
  • Developed postgraduate diplomas in Conflict Resolution and International Relations and Diplomacy.
  • Supervised more than 40 graduate research projects in political science and peace studies.

At the graduate level he teaches Quality Assurance in Education, Policy Studies in Education, Educational Planning, Policy Formulation and Strategic Planning
