Dr. Bashiru Garba is a public health epidemiologist and veterinary scientist specializing in zoonotic and vaccine-preventable diseases in crisis-affected populations. He holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from Universiti Putra Malaysia, and a MVPH and DVM from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Nigeria.
His research integrates field epidemiology, molecular diagnostics, and mixed-methods to study diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and health behaviours, while developing practical WASH and vaccination interventions. He has led projects on mortality surveillance, COVID-19 seroprevalence, leptospirosis, and antimicrobial stewardship.
Dr. Garba has authored 50+ publications and serves as PI or Co-I on projects funded by CDC and WHO. He also teaches epidemiology, health research methods, occupational health, and food safety, strengthening public health capacity in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
