The MBA (Oil & Gas Management) is a specialized professional degree that equips current and aspiring leaders with strategic, financial, legal/regulatory, and operational capabilities to navigate the upstream–midstream–downstream value chain and the global energy transition. It blends case-based learning, policy analysis, and industry practice to develop high-impact decision-makers for Somalia’s emerging hydrocarbons sector and international markets. The program is framed around sector governance, sustainability, and operational excellence, aligning with national priorities such as the Petroleum Law and strengthening institutions for transparent resource management.

Specific Objectives

Graduates will be able to:

  • Apply advanced decision tools to economic, geopolitical, and environmental challenges in the energy sector.
  • Evaluate investments, project finance, and risk in oil and gas portfolios.
  • Lead supply-chain optimization, contracting, negotiations, and compliance.
  • Integrate technological innovation and energy-transition considerations into strategy.

Expected Learning Outcomes

On completion, graduates will be able to: analyze global energy markets; craft and execute corporate strategy; navigate legal/regulatory and ESG frameworks; manage large-scale projects and supply chains; build financial models for valuation/risk; and lead organizational transformation in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Human Resources and Facilities

Teaching is delivered by a blend of academic staff and seasoned practitioners from public and private sectors to ensure strong industry alignment and practical insight. Students access university learning resources (library and e-resources, ICT facilities, LMS) and benefit from guest talks and site/industry engagements referenced across course outlines.

Exam Regulations

Module assessment: Continuous assessment (assignments, presentations) + end-semester exams. 

Academic integrity: All assessments governed by university policies on originality, ethics, and conduct. 

Practicum: Based on supervisor reports, reflective logs, deliverables, and presentation. 

Thesis: Proposal approval, supervised research, dissertation, originality check, oral defense. 

Progression & remediation: Students progress upon passing prescribed modules; make-up/retake opportunities per university policy. 

Grading & GPA: GPA thresholds and degree classification per university regulations.

Award of the Degree

To be awarded the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Oil & Gas Management, a candidate must:

  1. Complete core, specialization, electives, and thesis with the minimum GPA required. 
  2. Satisfy ethical and research compliance requirements. 
  3. Demonstrate English proficiency (B2 via Linguaskill or approved IELTS/TOEFL).
  4. Clear all financial and administrative obligations.

Academic: Bachelor’s degree (at least Lower Second Class or equivalent) from a recognized university; OR a relevant Postgraduate Diploma; OR recognized professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CIPS, ICSA).
